DESMOND THE RABBIT

He's a mega star. He's a talking rabbit. He's a criminal mastermind?

Yet another Desmond crime has been reported in the New Origin habitat sector. Thieves dressed up as the vidstar Desmond The Rabbit have plagued Metropolis for years, but the crimes have mostly been social. Stealing vegetables to give to the poor, or taking litter from trash cans, but recently the crimes have started becoming grander and more bizarre.

The latest case involves a bank robbery where the bank seems to have more money after the robbery than before. The thieves seem to have placed keys with access to crypto currencies worth millions of credits into the vault. A single carrot was left at the scene with a cryptic note that seemed to ask for help from “the human detective and talking dog”.

Desmond himself hasn’t been seen for years. The story of the famed star is legendary, showing up at the immigration gates some 30 years ago without a credit to his name, he appeared to have come from a genetic research laboratory outside the city. Before the Big Lift humans had crossed the line and meddled with many domestic animal breeds to give them intelligence. The moral questions and debate that followed however was not something scientists had considered. It was a dark time.

Desmond was a celebrity though, a talking rabbit was new. We had talking cats, dogs and monkeys, but no rabbits. And so culture took it’s course and fame followed and Desmond became one of the biggest vidstars of our generation starring in such gems as “Desmond the Rabbit meets the Killer Satsumas”.

The Desmond crimes have often been linked to Desmond himself, he’s denied all knowledge of a connection of course and his army of lawyers and social media farms have made sure public opinion remains positive he is nothing more than talking rabbit who happens to be a huge star.
